Everything you need to
know about Kingdom Falconry

General
Information

What is Kingdom Falconry?

Kingdom Falconry is an immersive, hands-on falconry centre in Dingle, Co. Kerry. We offer up-close encounters with birds of prey in a natural, educational setting—no shows, just real experiences.

What types of birds will I see?

We care for over 20 birds, including Harris Hawks, Barn Owls, Peregrine Falcons, Saker Falcons, Eagle Owls, and Orla, our Golden Eagle. The birds you meet may vary depending on the experience and season.

Is falconry safe?

Yes. All experiences are guided by experienced falconers. You’ll wear a falconry glove, receive clear instructions, and be supervised throughout. Our birds are highly trained and handled with care.

What makes falconry different from a bird show?

Falconry is a living heritage, not a performance. At Kingdom Falconry, you participate in the ancient bond between human and raptor through hands-on interaction, rather than watching a staged display.

What’s special about Kingdom Falconry?

We offer authentic falconry in a stunning coastal location, led by passionate falconers. We also focus on education, conservation, and raptor rehabilitation.

Visitor
Experience

Can children participate in the experience?

Yes, children are welcome. Many love meeting the birds—but we do recommend parental supervision for younger kids, especially around larger birds.

Will I get to hold or fly a bird?

Absolutely. All experiences include the chance to handle and often fly birds of prey under expert guidance.

Can we interact with Orla the Golden Eagle?

She may appear during private experiences, but not all sessions. As with any bird, her participation depends on her condition and temperament on the day.

Can I bring my camera or phone?

Yes! We encourage photography. Just be mindful not to startle the birds—our falconers will guide you on when to take your best shots.

Is there a gift shop or food onsite?

We don’t currently have a café or shop onsite, but Dingle town is only a short walk away and offers plenty of options for food and shopping.

Planning
& Practical Info

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advanced is not essential, but is advised. Please call us and we will accommodate you. Our experiences are in high demand, especially during peak travel seasons, so we recommend reserving your place as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

What should I wear?

Dress for the Irish outdoors—comfortable waterproof footwear and warm layers are best. The sessions are mostly on grass and coastal paths.

What if it rains?

Experiences run in light rain, and we provide cover where possible. For strong winds or heavy weather, we may need to reschedule—guests will be contacted in advance if this happens.

Where exactly is Kingdom Falconry?

We’re based at Milltown House on the waterfront in Dingle, Co. Kerry. Just a 15-minute walk from town, or a short drive. Public parking is recommended.

Are you open year-round?

Public Falconry Experiences run March–October. Private Experiences and Hawk Walks are available year-round (weather permitting and by appointment).

Groups
& Education

Do you offer group sessions?

Yes. We host tailored experiences for schools, tour groups, clubs, and corporate outings. Each session can be adapted to your group’s needs.

Can schools arrange visits?

During low season, we offer limited educational school visits within County Kerry—featuring live birds and curriculum-aligned talks on ecosystems and conservation.

What’s included in a group booking?

A group session may include handling and flying birds, private guided interaction, and dedicated Q&A time with a falconer. Advance booking is essential.

Do you offer educational talks during visits?

Yes. Every experience includes an educational component. You’ll learn about the birds’ natural behaviours, conservation efforts, and falconry heritage.

Can your team visit schools or clubs off-site?

Yes—within Kerry and subject to availability. School outreach includes live bird demonstrations and interactive conservation education.

Conservation
& Rehabilitation

What is your rehabilitation work?

We rescue and rehabilitate injured or orphaned birds of prey, with the goal of returning them to the wild when possible.

What kind of injuries do you treat?

We often care for birds harmed by traffic, pesticides, wind turbines, power lines, or habitat destruction. Each bird gets personalised, expert care.

What happens if a bird can't be released?

If a bird is non-releasable due to permanent injury, we provide lifelong care or find it a suitable forever home. Some become educational ambassadors.

Can I donate to support the birds?

Yes. Donations help cover the cost of high-quality feed, medication, and upkeep. Contributions can be made securely via PayPal.

What should I do if I find an injured raptor?

Call Kingdom Falconry at +353 (0)87 055 2313 or contact your local wildlife ranger. Place the bird in a ventilated cardboard box in a dark, quiet place and do not use cages or pet carriers.
